OpenFly’s environmental policy

DEVELOPING AIR TRANSPORT WITHOUT CONFLICTING WITH ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES IS NOT A UTOPIA

OpenFly has integrated the ecological dimension into its concept since its creation, based on 5 pillars, in the short, medium and long term:

  1. Consume less with direct connections and more economical aircraft

  2. Contributes to carbon neutrality by creating and feeding our own carbon sink

  3. Open up regions and maintain local jobs, by making it possible to make trips with a real economic impact

  4. Create synergies with actors in the aeronautics sector who are developing electric and hybrid aircraft projects

  5. From tomorrow, integrate the first decarbonised aircraft on our aircraft rental portal.

We are convinced that the ecological revolution will come first through light aviation and that aviation will be the cleanest means of transport, thanks to the development of new electric and hybrid engines, while limiting the need for infrastructure and the concentration of jobs in large cities.

Today: consume less with direct connections and more economical aircraft

With OpenFly, you arrange direct flights from your point of departure to the nearest point of arrival to your meeting place: you avoid connections and consume less fuel than if you had to make detours.

Moreover, contrary to popular belief, light aircraft consume significantly less fuel per passenger than the large aircraft used by commercial aviation.

Today: participate in carbon neutrality by offering our clients the opportunity to contribute to offsetting 100% of the CO₂ emissions from their travel.

In addition to using more fuel-efficient aircraft, we offer our clients a solution for offsetting the CO2 emissions of their trips via OpenFly. As soon as you rent an aircraft on OpenFly, you can make a financial contribution to a project in return for the weight of CO2 emitted by the trip in question.

We support the Aero4good project. The funds from our clients' contributions go directly to the association, which distributes them to partner training schools in order to subsidize flights in electric aircraft for pilot training. Each customer receives a certificate of compensation for their contribution, as well as a payment receipt issued directly by the Aero4good association.

Today: open up regions and maintain local jobs, by making it possible to make trips with a real economic impact

One of the main objectives of the launch of OpenFly is to open up the regions to allow companies to keep their headquarters and develop their activities in the regions.

The regions have considerable assets, but their isolation is an obstacle to their economic development. Private aviation allows these regions to be opened up, without any additional investment in infrastructure. This avoids the natural concentration of economic activities in large cities, and thus encourages local consumption and employment. This is why we are seeking to democratise access to this type of transport, which for a long time was the exclusive preserve of large groups.

In short, our aim is to enable the development of private aviation at an affordable price, allowing the organisation of trips with high economic stakes for companies, in a responsible manner.

Today: create synergies with actors in the aeronautics sector who are developing electric and hybrid aircraft projects

OpenFly is part of the W3 group of companies, which has a strong presence in the airline industry as it also owns the Breton airline Finistair and the first European electric aircraft rental company, Green Aerolease.

The will of the head of the W3 group, Charles Cabillic, who is also the founding president of OpenFly, is clear: to make W3 a leader in the "new air", with decarbonised aircraft, with hybrid or electric engines.

Green Aerolease is now leasing 100% electric, zero-emission Pipistrel Velis Electro aircraft for pilot training. Finistair has acquired a Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft, a model whose combustion engine can be replaced by a hybrid/electric engine by several companies in North America (certification is still needed for these reconditioned aircraft to be able to make commercial flights). At OpenFly, we are obviously very attentive to these developments, which we follow closely through the various exchanges we have within the group.

Tomorrow: integrate the first decarbonised aircraft on our aircraft rental portal

The world of aviation is changing faster than we think. Decarbonised aircraft are not a utopia for the next 20 to 30 years: quite the contrary! The aircraft already exist and are already flying and the technology is evolving extremely rapidly. We are no longer at the stage of designing these hybrid or electric aircraft, but rather at the stage of their certification by the public authorities.

It is estimated that the first electric aircraft capable of commercial flights will be available in 4 to 5 years. That's tomorrow!

If you want to know more about these planes, we have devoted an entire article to them on our blog.

Obviously, these aircraft will not be large aircraft, but rather "light" aircraft, which correspond to the aircraft used in private aviation... In other words, precisely the aircraft listed on OpenFly!

At OpenFly, we have already established contacts with most of the manufacturers of these "future" aircraft, which will make light aviation the cleanest means of transport in the world, as well as with public authorities. We are ready to integrate these aircraft on our private rental portal as soon as it is possible.
